All men are at risk for prostate cancer and we encourage the citizens of Ohio to increase the importance of prostate screenings. Funds from the ZERO The End Of Prostate Cancer license plates would stay in Ohio to provide free patient navigation services to reduce financial toxicity among prostate cancer and free transportation for prostate cancer patients to doctor appointments Please feel free to share it with others as well! The picture says it all..
11 years now! My husband and I met June 20, 1983. I was 19 and he was 30. It was love at first sight. We were married September 28, 1983. We were suppose to be happy for the rest of our lives. But on June 19, 2009 he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. When I heard the news it felt like I hit a brick wall. I will not say it has been easy. October 12, will be 11 years after the prostatectomy. I am very thankful that he has not had any reoccurrences! This picture says it all...

The SPILL on Capitol Hill
The Anniversary of...
I took a SPILL on Capitol Hill and broke my leg.
My first trip to Washington, DC is one I will never forget!
September 13, 2012 we had meeting with the Senators from Ohio and our first meeting was at 8:30 am with Senator Brown but at around 8:15 am I took a SPILL on Capitol Hill and felt a pop in my leg. I figured it was broken but it did not stop me to get to the meetings with the Senators. The Capitol Hill Officers wanted to know if I wanted to go to the ER but I said no! I am going to these meetings some way! So they call for a wheelchair. I told them that I will go after the meetings..maybe. We got to Senator Brown's Constituants Coffee a little after it started but I made it.
We attended the first meeting and then Ray took me to The Capitol Hill First Aid, the nurse wrapped up my leg and also suggested the ER. Again we still have two meetings with Senators in the afternoon and I am going to them no matter what. We seen Champions from the Summit on the Hill and asked what happened? I explained and some said that is dedication.
After the meetings I wanted to do some sightseeing in Washington since I had never been there before. But with my leg there was no walking and the pain was starting to set in more. So we started back home to Columbus, Ohio!
We drove through the night and made it back to Columbus around 2:00 am slept until around noon and then went to the ER. The Doctor asked how it happened. I took a SPILL on Capitol Hill. They laughed and apoligized and said it is funny how you say it! After about an hour in the ER and X-rays it was confirmed my leg is broken! They called me a dedicated trooper for still continuing on to the meetings with a broken leg. But it is like I told them Prostate Cancer Awareness is very important to me as my husband has it!

Truly grateful!
When I started requesting Proclamations from elected officials. People would tell me it’s a waste of time. They don’t listen. Well since 2014 I have shared my story with over 10,000 elected officials. Close to 400 Cities, Villages and Townshps have either sent a Proclamation in the mail or have requested us to attend the Council meeting. One County Commissioner requested us to attend the reading. As Ray and I were waiting on the meeting to begin two news stations entered the meeting as well. The Commissioner said he wanted them there to hear our story. As we finished he said he had something to share as well. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer two years earlier and never told anyone. But today he wanted to share his story on the news. He said my story helped him to share his. He also said the Courthouse would be Blue the month of September. To this day two years later it is still my phone screen!
Other elected officials will also share their story in emails. And they say thank you for doing what your doing. I started in Ohio because we live in Ohio. Then by accident I would contact other states because their cities had the same names in Ohio. I contacted Columbus, Indiana and Columbus, Georgia because my dad is from Indiana and three of my sons are from Georgia. Add them to my list! Ray is from Kingston, New York. He contacted the Mayor and no response. I contact him and in 2016 we received the first Proclamation. Maybe he liked my story better than Ray’s. 😂😂
This year I have Proclamations from Ohio, New York, Indiana, Georgia, Tennessee and Pennsylvania.
Yes the Proclamations don’t bring in money. But raising awareness and showing the need is critical in moving on to the next step of funding. Before Ray was diagnosed I was clueless to what prostate cancer was.

ZERO Champions storming the Hill
Every year ZERO Champions storm Capitol Hill and share our stories of prostate cancer with Members of Congress and the Senate. Along with sharing our stories we ask that the funding for prostate cancer is protected in the FY budget. When Ray Hoetger and I became Champions in 2012 the budget was $80M now it is $100M! February 2019 God willing Ray and I will be back on the Hill sharing again.
Guys speaking up and sharing your story will make a difference! You’re not alone.
