Fact:

161,360 men will be told they have prostate cancer in 2017. Currently there are nearly 2.9 million American men living with the disease – roughly equal to the population of Chicago.

Please share with your ekected.officials in your area. Ask them for their support for  prostate cancer awareness month with a Proclamaton or Resolution. Please send a copy to me as the Proclamations and Resolutions are used at events to also raise awareness.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness month

Whereas, Prostate cancer constitutes 19% of all cancer diagnoses and 8% of all cancer deaths; and

Whereas, In Ohio an estimated 5,840 new cases of prostate cancer and an estimated 1,020 deaths will occur; and

Whereas, Men with relatives – father, brother, son – with a history of prostate cancer are twice as likely to develop the disease; and

Whereas, Veterans are 1.5 times more likely to get prostate cancer; and

Whereas, Prostate cancer is most commonly diagnosed cancer in American Men and the third leading cause of cancer death behind lung and colon cancer; and

Whereas, this year approximately 161,360 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States alone every year – that’s one man every 3.3 minutes and roughly 26,730 die this year from the disease – which is one man every 20 minutes; and

Whereas, 1 in 8 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer. African American men are at the highest risk for the disease with a rate of 1 in 6 men. African American men are 2.3 times more likely to die from the disease: and

Whereas, Education regarding prostate cancer and early detection strategies is critical to saving lives, preserving, and protecting our families; and

Whereas, all men are at risk for prostate cancer and we encourage the citizens of (City) to increase the importance of prostate screenings.

Advocates to Descend on Capitol Hill 2017

Hundreds of advocates will put their passion to work as they descend on Capitol Hill at the end of February to fight for increased prostate cancer research funding during ZERO's Annual Advocacy Summit.

During the Summit, ZERO advocates will meet with more than 70 congressional members that have influence over prostate cancer funding and legislative priorities. It is through these meetings that we make a statement on Capitol Hill during the 2018 appropriations process. We're fighting for increased prostate cancer research funding on behalf of all men and their families.

Kirsten Bibbins-Domingo, MD, PhD, MAS, Chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, will join this year's speakers list. Summit attendees will have the opportunity to hear her speak about the Task Force and what the future recommendations on the PSA could mean for prostate cancer diagnosis.

Melissa Cunningham, PhD, Program Manager, Prostate Cancer Research Program. She will be speaking to advocates about the high-risk, high-reward research that PCRP takes on at the Department of Defense and how advocates can be involved in the research review process.

Pinewood Derby

Woodville, Ohio had an amazing Mayor. His name is Rich Harman. For the past few years he has support my efforts in raising awareness for prostate cancer. He has done Proclamations, and accepted my challenge in lighting a Landmark Blue. Along with all of thus last year he put Blue ribbons through out the Village.

This year he made a Pinewood Derby car for Prostate Cancer Awareness. I am so blessed on the support he is giving to the families.
