This year approximately 164,690 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in the United States alone every year – that’s one man every 3.2 minutes and roughly 29,430 die this year from the disease – which is one man every 19 minutes.
In Ohio an estimated 5,810 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed and an estimated 1,110 deaths will occur in 2018.
Men with relatives – father, brother, son – with a history of prostate cancer are twice as likely to develop the disease.

World Cancer Day 2018
Today is world Cancer Day! June 19, 2009 that horrible Word Cancer struck my family. Ray was 56 years old and was diagnosed with an aggressive for of prostate cancer. When we were told I felt like I hit a brick wall at full force. Myself had so many questions that needed answers.
The words Prostate Cancer has changed our lives in so many ways. We have met some new “family” and share their joys of being in Remission. We morn with the families who have lost their loved ones in their battle with this disease. Ray and I advocate for Education and Awareness for Prostate Cancer. We speak with our elected officials in Ohio and on Capitol Hill on the importance of robust funding for research in finding a cure for this disease.
Ray is in Remission and we know at anytime this disease can rear it’s ugly head. But we are not going to let prostate cancer win. #KeepFighting #ProstateCancer #WorldCancerDay #EndProstateCancer #Zero

The results are in!!!
My husband had his PSA test:
Got the results of my labwork. Yes I'm still a sweet guy, in fact too sweet. My PSA is still <0.01 and my Testerone went over 100. Boy do I feel sexy. I just hope that study is correct that you can have a high T level and it not affect your Prostate Cancer. I'm 8
years 2+ months post surgery, almost 4 years post radiation and 2 years 7 months since my last (3 month) hormone shot. Hot flashes gone for the most part.
Prostate cancer is still in Remission! But I will not give up raising awareness for this horrible disease. There are still men fighting the fight and losing their fight with prostate cancer. I cheer for those guys and families who keep fighting and I morn along with the families who have lost the fight. I hope and pray that our sons and grandsons will never hear this devastating words in their lives...you have prostate cancer.
In February Ray and I along with others from across the nation will be in DC for the ZERO Summit. On the last day we all will meet with our Elected Officials and share our Journeys and ask them to continue the funding for prostate cancer!

Chuy's Tex Mex
Petey goes with me everywhere and when he has the chance to help raise awareness for prostate cancer he will. One of his favorite places to eat is at Chuy's in the Easton Towne Center!
This month of November is also known as Growvember. Men will put down their razor for the month and grow beards and mustaches. We were having lunch there one day earlier this month and got to meet one of the newest Manager Heather. She heard about the Petey scene that I did for Phil. She came over to meet us and Ray gave her the Blue Mustache, She said she was going to put it on one of the pictures. She did! It is on the Ann Margaret picture inside the doorway next to the host stand. That way everyone can see it. Heather was hoping to have a Petey there all the time with the picture. This Petey is the one that I have had for 5 years.
Shhh....Don't tell her but Petey said mom needs to make her a Petey scene. Well mom has an idea and now just needs to get working on it!
PCAM Proclamation Team
Soon 2018 will here be and again I will be asking for your support for raising awareness for Prostate Cancer Awareness in September. In 2013 it became my mission to start writing Elected Officials throughout Ohio for their support in raising awareness in their community. We now have a PCAM Proclamation Team across the nation who are working their Elected Officials asking for a Proclamation or Resolution for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September. It has been a blessing to attend some of the Council meetings to accept the Proclamations and Resolutions and we do have a PCAM Proclamation Team that will be honored to attend and share their Journey with your community.
While my husband and I have attended meetings in Ohio there have been Men and Families who say Thank you and now know that they do not have to fight this battle on their own. And some have even said because of you I am going to start sharing my Journey and get men talking about prostate cancer.
Can I count on your community this year? I will provide the Text for the Proclamation or Resolution. Please feel free to use your own text. Some Elected Officials has also shared the Proclamations and Resolution on the City, Village or Township website and has displayed a copy in the Municipal Building for the community to see. I do ask for a copy for myself as they are used at different events to show the support for out families who are battling prostate cancer.

Why a walnut?
There is a significance to why. The walnut is the size of a normal prostate. In 2009 my husband was diagnosed with an aggressive for of the disease. We attend a support group and one meeting the group leader sent around a plain walnut. I sat there looking at the walnut and as you can see I got creative the very next day with some of my own! At first they did not look like the Generation now. Petey has been many changes in the past 8 years. When I started it was just the Petey and then it grew to making scenes with him. Many times I can find what I need at the stores but if I can't design mode again.
When my husband was first diagnosed I could have sat back and done nothing and feel sorry for myself as my life has changed as well. But as you can see I chose to use my creativity for good.
Though Petey will not be big and famous in every ones eyes those who are battling the disease or lost their battle his is big and famous in their hearts!

Thank you for your support in September!
I wanted to say Thank you to all of those who supported my efforts in raising awareness for Prostate Cancer in September with a Proclamation or Resolution. And for lighting a Landmark Blue last month there was a park in Woodville, The Government Tower in Columbus, Ballard lights in Canal Winchester and a bridge in Dayton Ohio.
Many ask why I request the Proclamations and Resolutions. They ask does it have any monetary value? No. Then why? It is another way of raising awareness for prostate cancer. Many times the documents are read at Council meetings with residents in attendance and other guests. The elected officials will read aloud the proclamation or resolution and you hear the sobering facts on the impact it has in the community. And call for more attention to take action to do more on the state level and in Washington, DC. Many men will not share their journey with prostate cancer as they feel so alone. They will not talk about having prostate cancer and will suffer in silence. There are so many changes that happens when a man is diagnosed with prostate cancer. What others need to also understand this disease not only affects the men it trickles down to the women in their lives as well. I know, I am one of those women!
