Always talking

I love enjoying spreading the word about prostate cancer. When ever mom takes me places it give me the opportunity to talk. I find new survivors and and families. People will ask why a walnut?

The great cover up!

Before the fall. And after the cover up. Mom told me to be careful. Thankfully she was able to fix me.

Congressman Steve Stivers

My 6th year!

This will be my 6th year of asking for a Proclamation or Resolution for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Actually every month is prostate cancer awareness for our loved ones fighting this battle. You’re not alone in this fight and someone cares! June 19, 2009 My husband and I started traveling this road. As of today his status is NED (No Evidence of Disease)! But we will not let our guard down as we know it can rear it’s ugly head again. He continues to get his PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test every three months. Simple blood test!! If you are already having a blood draw ask the doctor to put one more check on the request that ever so important PSA test. It just might save your life!!! Prostate cancer is not an old mans disease any more. Men in their twenties and thirties and even younger have been diagnosed with this disease. If you have a prostate it can go bad at anytime like my other organ!

Since 2012 my husband and I have been advocating with ZERO The End Of Prostate Cancer. And have traveled to Washington DC to meet with our Elected Officials and share our story about prostate cancer. We will be back in DC later this month doing it again! I also share with the support and strides we are making in Ohio in raising awareness in the fight for prostate cancer. They are making a critical decision to keep funding for research on Capitol Hill!

Last year 26 of the 88 Counties supported my efforts. One of my goals this year is to have all 88 counties! Many of the Ohio Statehouse Elected Officials also joined in supporting as well. Another goal is to have all of the Ohio Statehouse supporting! Thank you to all of the City Elected Officials who have supported as well! Some of you have been supporting my efforts since I started. Mayor Rich Harman Of Woodville has been just one of the Mayors! 💙💙💙 Another goal is to have ALL of the Mayors supporting. It would be Amazing to see Ohio go Blue for Prostate Cancer Awareness by 2020!!

Why a walnut?

Why a walnut?

The walnut is the size of the prostate.

June 19, 2009 my life forever changed. My husband and I devastating news. You have an aggressive form of prostate cancer.  My husband was 56 at that time. After being stunned, shocked and horrified. I had lots of questions as I was clueless to what this was. One was will our four sons be diagnosed with prostate cancer? What do we do next? Was it something I did?

The best advice from the Urologist was. Become students and learn everything you can. I took that advice to heart and did just that. And still learning almost 10 years later and will continue until there is a cure for prostate cancer!

In 2009 I created Petey the Prostate Crusader. This is my creative way of raising awareness for prostate cancer. He goes with me every where including to Washington, DC.  My husband and I speak on Capitol Hill along with other prostate patients and survivors across the Nation. We will be in DC in 18 days attending the ZERO Summit sharing our story with Senators and Congress Members for the 7th year.  We also ask that they continue funding and research for finding a cure for this horrible disease that no one likes to talk about. Last year the Prostate Cancer patients and survivors asked for $100M for the budget. As we all were leaving the Hill after a 10 hour day of meetings and Congressional Reception. We where the BEST NEWS! $100M approved in the FY budget.

This year our ask is $110M fingers crossed we will hear the same news leaving the Hill this year!!!
